Children Holiday Dressing
The holiday season is filled with many personal and special occasions. One of the really fun parts can be picking out all the adorable outfits for the little girls in the family. Of course, if you don’t know what is appropriate, picking out their outfits can also be a total nightmare. Take all the guesswork out of holiday dressing for children with this guide.
There are a few keys to making sure you have the right outfit for the right holiday event for your child. It needs to suit the occasion and the age of the girl, it should be seasonal, and – this one is often overlooked – it must be comfortable. You might adore the look of a full skirt on a holiday dress, but if the crinoline is scratchy, you may well be faced with a full-blown tantrum if you try to make your daughter wear it! And don’t forget about the finishing touches, such as a pair of black patent leather shoes (Mary Janes for little girls and flats for the tweens), fresh white tights, and some pretty girls jewelry.
A trip to see the “Nutcracker” is probably the most dressiest event on a little girl’s holiday list. This is the time to pull out all the stops! Choose a very fancy dress, such as red velvet with a satin sash or a silk taffeta tartan dress with a smocked bodice. A big bow in the child’s hair is a must, as are patent leather shoes and tights. She will also want a very special piece of girls jewelry to wear to the “Nutcracker”, such as a little pearl necklace. A great little accessory for your daughter to add to her attire is a tiny black velvet purse if she is into girly things (What will she put in it? Who knows – it is the purse that matters, not the contents.) As many theaters are chilly, be sure that the outfit includes a soft warm cardigan, preferably one with satin covered buttons.
Holiday open houses are very common, and you will want something very special for your little girl to wear. As they tend to be held in the afternoon, open houses are festive, but not terribly formal. An ideal open house outfit for a young lady would be a pretty sweater worn with a dressy skirt. The skirt could be made of taffeta or tartan, or for older girls could be made from black velvet. A cardigan with Scotty dogs marching around the neckline or an intarsia bow on a dark red sweater would be a super cute fun holiday motif themed sweater. If your daughter has pierced ears, a petite pair of crystal stud earrings would be the perfect festive girls jewelry to complete her holiday open house outfit.
Attending any kind of Church service is taditional and important for most families during the holidays. Depending on which type of Church you attend, the style of dress could be more dressier than others, so make sure you look around to see what other people are wearing. Always err on the side of overdressed, rather than underdressed for your little girl’s holiday church outfit. A Blackwatch plaid tartan dress in a nice cotton or wool twill would be wonderful for Christmas church services. Add a matching plaid or velvet headband, navy blue tights, and black patent leather shoes, along with her best piece of girls jewelry. For older girls, a velvet or tartan skirt worn with a fancy cardigan would be an excellent choice for church. It will be much easier on you and the older girls if you allow them to have some say in their holiday outfits.
Getting all dressed up is part of what makes a special occasion feel special. Help your little girls get into the holiday spirit with the perfect outfits for festive events. Dressing up for Christmastime is a great tradition that your little girls will love.
